Overwatch League player suspended after homophobic slur

Overwatch League player Felix ‘xQc’ Lengyel has been suspended over homophobic remarks made in reference to a competitor.

Lengyel has been suspended by both the Overwatch League and his team, the Dallas Fuel, after a slur that violated the League’s Code of Conduct. Lengyel was angered after the Houston Outlaws’ Austin ‘Muma’ Wilmot, an openly gay player, used one of Lengyel’s catchphrases in a post-game interview.

“Shut your f*cking mouth,” Lengyel said in response. “Go back there. Suck a fat cock. I mean, you would like it.”

The Overwatch League responded first, fining Lengyel $2,000 USD and suspending him for four matches. The Fuel furthered this, suspending the player for the rest of Stage 1 play, ending 10 February.

The Fuel also said that Lengyel will be provided with “additional resources, focus coaching, physical training and support.” Lengyel also offered a apology to Wilmot, who has accepted it.

Wilmot looks happy to move past the incident as quickly as possible.

The Outlaws have just picked up a new fan in this writer.

The Overwatch League kicked off earlier this month.
