Overwatch Contenders Australia Season 3 starts this month

Overwatch Contenders Australia Season 3 details were recently confirmed by Activision Blizzard.

Starting up on 19 November, matches will take place on Twitch over Monday and Tuesday nights, all leading up to a grand final to be held at Sydney’s ESL Studios on 20 January 2019.

Moreover, Blizzard detailed changes to the Contenders format.

“There will now be two seasons in Contenders 2019, and each will be longer,” Blizzard advised. “To maximise the level of play globally, each Contenders region, Australia included, will be moving from 12 competing teams to eight. Additionally, North America Contenders will be split into two eight-team regions, bringing the total number of Overwatch Contenders regions to eight.”

The changes will take place inside Contenders leagues around the world, with the exception of China.

“Depending on the amount of invitations accepted from Overwatch League Academy teams, many top-performing teams from 2018 Contenders Season 3 will be automatically qualified for 2019 Season 1,” Blizzard continued. “This will vary per region, but all existing teams will have the opportunity to re-qualify through Contenders Trials if not automatically invited back.”
