Release onto other platforms and the Epic Games Store? Discount!
Epic Games will drop its royalty fees from 5% to 3.5% when developers release their games on the Epic Games Store at the same time as other platforms, its today announced.
In a scheme called “Launch Everywhere with Epic”, titles with a multi-platform release will be able to take advantage of the discounted royalty rates, provided the Epic Games Store release takes place at the same time. Publish on a different platform first, and then Epic Games Store? No discount for you.
“Developers can qualify for a reduced Unreal Engine royalty rate for games that ship on the Epic Games Store before or at the same time as in other stores on corresponding platforms,” Epic detailed in a corresponding FAQ.
“Qualifying games will benefit from a royalty rate of 3.5% (instead of the 5% standard). The lower royalty will apply to all platforms where the game is offered such as console, mobile, and/or desktop, as long as you are shipping on the corresponding Epic Games Store for that platform (should it be available).”
Titles that are launched exclusively to the Epic Games Store for PC, Mac, or Android will also be placed in the reduced royalty scheme.
“With the huge pressure on margins across the game business, we’re improving our engine and store terms further to help you reach bigger audiences with more developer-friendly terms,” Epic concluded.
