Epic Games Store now offers pre-loading

Download after you buy, but before you can play.

The Epic Games Store will now allow for pre-loading of games that are about to release, the platform today revealed.

Players who’ve pre-ordered titles will be able to pre-download them up to five days before said game’s release.

“Preloading is now available for PC pre-purchase products on the Epic Games Store,” Epic Games said in a forum post. “This new feature allows players to download titles they have pre-purchased up to five days (120 hours) prior to release via an encrypted build. Preloading ensures that players can jump into the game quickly on day one, which is especially beneficial for titles with large downloads.”

Not every game is available for pre-loading; specifically, the game has to be available for sale ahead of release. And, of course, a player has to first buy it.

“Preloading is only available for products with an approved pre-purchase offer live on the store,” Epic Games continued. “Developers interested in enabling pre-purchase functionality can create a private discussion and set the topic to ‘Epic Games Store,’ or contact their Account Manager to request access via the Self-Publishing Tools.”
