Embracer Group acquires Lord of the Rings IP rights, Tripwire Interactive, more

Big day.

Embracer Group has acquired the rights to a number of properties today including the IP rights to Lord of the Rings, Killing Floor’s Tripwire Interactive, and many more.

“Embracer… has entered into an agreement to acquire Middle-earth Enterprises, a division of the The Saul Zaentz Company, which owns a vast intellectual property catalogue and worldwide rights to motion pictures, video games, board games, merchandising, theme parks and stage productions relating to the iconic fantasy literary workds The Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien, as well as matching rights in other Middle-earth-related literary works authorized by the Tolkien Estate and HarperCollins, which have yet to be explored,” the company said in a statement.

The literary works of Tolkien will remain the property of the Tolkien Estate.

The company also announced acquisitions of Teardown‘s Tuxedo Labs, Singtrix, Tatsujin and Limited Run Games.

Finally, another acquisition will soon be locked in, with Embracer unwilling to name the entity today due to “commercial reasons”. The latest acquisition will be “in the range of being among either third or fourth largest of the Transactions,” according to Embracer Group.

Embracer Group didn’t detail the financials of any acquisition.
