EB Games backpedals on paid Switch 2 midnight launch Fast Pass

Well, mostly.

EB Games has backpedalled on a ridiculous setup that ensured only those who were paying for an EB World subscription could attend Switch 2 midnight launches and collect their pre-orders earlier than most.

To attend a Switch 2 midnight launch or breakfast launch, the original setup required a $50 AUD/year EB World membership or the requirement to trade in your original Switch right this second. Now, that’s been scrapped, though Fast Pass holders will be able to “zoom to the front” of queues on the day, EB Games has told its customers.

I should note that I myself received an email with these changes, saying I’ve “traded” and therefore was entitled to a Fast Pass. I’ve traded games in the past, sure, but I still have my own Switch in my possession. If you’ve dealt with EB Games in the past, it mightn’t be a bad idea to check your emails.

Beyond that, anyone can now show up to these events, but you’ll likely need to process a Switch 2 pre-order long before that time — you’d hate to attend and miss out on a console. Participating stores can be found here.

Update: EB Games has now confirmed that any trade-ins towards a Switch 2 pre-order will make one eligible for the Fast Pass process. It also confirmed that all midnight and breakfast launches are otherwise open to the general public.

The Switch 2 is available from 5 June 2025 — EB’s midnight launches kick off from 9 pm local time on 4 June.
