EA named one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality”

What an interesting year for good ol’ EA. Back in April, the internets (okay, more like the American people, thanks to the Consumerist) voted EA the “Worst Company in America.” Fast forward seven months later, and the Human Rights Campaign has just named the company as one of the “Best Places to Work for LGBT Equality.”

Sorry Consumerist, but the Human Rights Campaign wins.

EA was awared the title as it demonstrated policies, benefits and practices that are “best-in-class demonstrations of corporate commitments to lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.” EA’s stance against the USA’s Defense of Marriage Act in June certainly would have helped to solidify this accolade.

“I am very pleased that EA has scored a 100% rating and been recognized by the Human Rights Campaign in a year where the company has taken significant steps to remain inclusive,” said Gabrielle Toledano, Chief Talent Officer, EA. “EA has made changes to our medical benefits, been involved in LGBT events in our community and taken a public stance against the Defense of Marriage Act. EA champions diversity with a work environment where everyone feels welcome and can be themselves.”

The 100% rating Toledano speaks of refers to the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) report, which analyses and rates U.S. employers, their policies and practices in regards to LGBT employees. EA describes the report as “the premiere national benchmark for LGBT workplace inclusion.”

Honestly? EA sounds like a place I’d love to work at… and not just for lunchtime FIFA 13 tournaments.

Congratulations to EA, and especially its amazing Asia Pacific staff that the mostly-gay contingent (the rest are gay-friendly, anyway) here at Stevivor.com interact with regularly. It’s an award that’s well-deserved.
