EA combines Criterion, Codemasters Cheshire for Need for Speed

Welcome to the new Criterion.

EA has integrated Codemasters Cheshire into Criterion, essentially doubling the resources for future Need for Speed titles.

The news comes by way of GamesIndustry, which reports that no redunancies were made as part of the studio merger.

“This integration builds off the close partnership the two studios have developed over the past few months,” EA told the outlet.

“Sharing common values and similar cultures, we strongly believe unifying the huge wealth of experience across both teams will help us to deliver the best racing experiences we can for our players.”

Criterion will work on Need for Speed after the merger, while Codemasters Birmingham will focus on EA’s Formula 1 franchise.

Codemasters was acquired by EA last year. Codemasters Cheshire was formed by former developers of Evolution Studios.
