EA acquires cloud gaming service GameFly

EA has acquired the cloud gaming service GameFly, the publisher has today announced.

Electronic Arts has also acquired the Israel-based team that powers the Netflix-like games streaming service, it was also confirmed.

“Cloud gaming is an exciting frontier that will help us to give even more players the ability to experience games on any device from anywhere,” EA Chief Technology Officer, Ken Moss, said. “We’re thrilled to bring this talented team’s expertise into EA as we continue to innovate and expand the future of games and play.”

EA used a press release to confirmed that the GameFly team will join EA’s other functional teams, including that of the PC-based Origin service. This new acquisition means powerful titles could be streamed to a subscriber’s PC rather than that person’s rig tasked to do the heavy lifting.

We’ll have more on EA’s plans for GameFly as they’re made available.
