Doom: Ultra-Nightmare mode so hard, its devs can’t finish it

Doom Executive Producer Marty Stratton and Creative Director Hugo Martin have shared details of the game’s Ultra-Nightmare difficulty with IGN.

The mode combines the game’s second highest difficulty with permadeath, meaning you’re in a for a huge challenge. Die once, and you wipe back to the game’s start. Ouch.

Bragging rights are definitely up for grabs whilst playing the difficulty mode.

“When you die, it drops a helmet, a Doom marine helmet, in the world and your friends will see those and you’ll see them,” Stratton added. “So you can always try and get a little bit further than where you see that collection of helmets early in the game.”

The pair have mentioned that no one in the development studio has yet to finish the difficulty mode.

Doom is available from 13 May on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
