Don’t install GTA V’s “Play” disc to your Xbox 360 HDD

Hey! Welcome to the world, post-Grand Theft Auto V release. Can you believe we’re finally here?

To those Xbox 360 gamers who pick up the game today — and even those that stayed up late last night to nab a copy — be advised: you shouldn’t install GTA V‘s “Play” disc to your 360’s hard drive.

In other words, install the 8GB secondary disc that the game recommends, then stop there.

“Optimal streaming is achieved by making use of all the available bandwidth in the system,” said Digital Foundry’s Richard Leadbetter explains.

“Based on what we’re seeing on the Xbox 360 version, perhaps running both DVD and HDD assets from just the one source slows down access times, impacting streaming performance,” he continued. “It’s not game-breaking stuff, but it does take you out of the moment when it does manifest and for that reason we can’t recommend installing the play disc.”
