Dolphin, the Wii and GameCube emulator, can now connect to the Wii Shop Channel

Dolphin, the PC-based Wii and GameCube emulator, can now connect to the Wii Shop Channel. This allows users to top up credit and purchase Wii, WiiWare and Virtual Console titles.

“Getting to the point where we could go shopping on Dolphin was a long and tumultuous one,” developer JMC47 advised.

“We couldn’t even connect to the update servers a few weeks ago, and had little idea why.”

There’s a bit of work involved to get things up and running — all detailed here — but for most Dolphin users, we think the effort will be worth it. Best yet, if users have installed the same NAND as their original Wii console, they should be able to re-download past purchases.

Back in September, the emulator managed to crack support for all GameCube titles. Previously, Dolphin existed as a Wii-only emulator.
