Sonic Mania has an easter egg that makes fun of Sonic’s laughable 25th birthday

Sonic the Hedgehog’s 25th birthday was a bit of a disaster, but thankfully, Sonic Mania has a sense of humour about it.

One of the game’s developers has taken to Twitter to confirm that an audio queue is intentional… and pointed. A buzz in one of Sonic Mania‘s levels is a straight-up sample of a buzzing that plagued a livestream meant to celebrate Sonic’s birthday last year.

The buzzing was discovered by Twitter user UnknownKongYT.

Developer Brad Flick confirmed the buzz was exactly what the gamer had thought.

Sonic Mania is available now on Xbox One, PS4 and Switch and heads to PC later in the month.
