Harvey Norman Ireland wants €69 to update your console

Harvey Norman Ireland’s Lovetech support service is charging players €69 (around $110 AUD) to update their console.

The service was brought to light by Redditor Caitsashehole, who posted an image that detailed the offering.

According the poster, the console set-up service includes the following:

  • Make sure your device is ready to use
  • Games are ready to play
  • Controllers are ready to use

Judging by the poster’s heading — “Did you know consoles require a system update before they work?” — it’s assumed that any console updates will be downloaded and applied. While that service sounds great — and hey, for that price, might be worth it here in Australia if you’re on the receiving end of a woeful internet service — getting “games ready to play” means that Harvey Norman staff will either require your gamertag, password and potentially your credit card information for digital games in order to get things going.

Well, that or they’ll sign you up for a gamertag of their choosing. Well, either all that or they’ll simply pop in disc-based games to see if they need updates of their own. What a headache.

Considering all of this, it seems like the service is a bit too expensive for what it’s worth. What do you think?
