Disney Infinity’s now-cancelled future: Rogue One, Guardians 2 Play Sets and more

Kotaku today reported on Disney Interactive and Avalanche Software’s future plans for the Disney Infinity franchise, now scrapped by Disney itself.

New Play Sets would have focused on properties such as the Star Wars spin-off Rogue One, Star Wars: Episode VIIICars 3, Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No TalesGuardians of the Galaxy 2 and more.

Larger, 12″ toys were also planned, like Nintendo’s larger plush Yoshi amiibo.

Earlier this week, Disney confirmed both Disney Infinity and Avalanche Software would be scrapped. Kotaku’s report says this is because too many Infinity toys were produced and not sold. As an example, 2 million Hulk figures were produced, and only of them made it off store shelves.

It wasn’t all gloom and doom; Star Wars figures made Disney $200 million USD in revenue alone, and the franchise was cancelled as it sat as the number one title in the toys-to-live genre.
