Disney acquires 21st Century Fox, regains Marvel cinematic licenses

Media giant Disney has announced its acquired large portions of 21st Century Fox. Disney has paid $52.4 billion USD as part of the acquisition.stock deal.

Disney now is in control of 21st Century Fox’s film and television studios alongside its cable and international TV businesses. Additionally, Disney’s stake in Hulu increases to 60 percent.

That’s the boring stuff — for us geeks, it’s time to get excited over the fact that Disney now owns the cinematic licenses for Marvel properties Deadpool, Fantastic Four and X-Men, meaning we’re likely to see their inclusion in the Marvel cinematic universe (and hopefully, back in the comics too!).

The deal is subject to regulatory approval.
