Directive 8020 delayed to 2026 while Supermassive lays off staff

"Up to 36" at Supermassive are anticipated to lose their jobs.

Directive 8020 will be delayed into 2026, Supermassive has announced — at the same time it declared it could lay off up to 36 staff members.

“The games industry remains a challenging and ever-evolving environment,” begins a post on social media. “As we adapt our team structure to better align with these changes, we’ve had to make the very difficult decision to begin a redundancy consultation process where we anticipate losing up to 36 of our colleagues.”

Supermassive goes on to say that, “the decision was not taken lightly, and we know this will be an incredibly difficult time for everyone”. The studio has also promised “to offer full support” for those that lose their jobs.

As a result, the latest Dark Pictures game, Directive 8020, will be delayed to the first half of 2026. The title was first planned for an October release.

“The response to the game so far has been fantastic, and this additional time will help us deliver the very best experience for our fans,” Supermassive added.

Expect The Dark Pictures Directive 8020 on Windows PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, and PS5 in the first half of 2026.
