Destiny 2’s new dungeon-like Lost Sectors aren’t procedurally generated

Destiny 2‘s Lost Sectors are “hand crafted” and not procedurally generated according to Bungie’s Steve Cotton.

The Lost Sectors, best described as mini-dungeons, will be scattered about Patrol missions. To enter a Lost Sector, you’ll first need to find its corresponding symbol in the world, then activate it to open an entryway. Lost Sectors will involve exploration, boss battles and, of course, loot.

“That’s the philosophy with the Lost Sectors – you’re going to see this symbol and you’re going to be like, “Oh no, I know that there’s something cool here to do.” Now, it’s not going to be a raid behind that symbol,” Cotton told Glixel. “It’s a dungeon and it’s meant to be done pretty quickly. It’s meant to be done as you’re out in the world.”

Cotton later took to Twitter to confirm these areas will not be procedurally generated.

Seems exciting, eh?

Destiny 2 heads to Xbox One and PS4 in September, with a Windows PC release — exclusive to Battle.net — to follow.
