Destiny’s Crucible is getting a Mercy Rule to prevent blowouts

Bungie recently announced that a Mercy Rule will be added to Destiny‘s Crucible in order to stamp out blowouts.

“When the Mercy Rule hits, [Crucible master Lord] Shaxx will call out the end of the match,” Destiny Senior Designer Andrew Weldon wrote in an update.

“We immediately disable join in progress to prevent any additional players from joining the game (if anyone has dropped already) and reset the game clock to :10 seconds. After those 10 seconds, the match will end normally. All players will receive their end of match rewards and return to matchmaking.”

Weldon added that the Mercy Rule will be “good at identifying games that get out of hand early, but not necessarily games that pull away late.”

The Mercy Rule will not apply to Elimination of the Trials of Osiris playlists, and will be added as part of Destiny‘s 2.0.0 update.
