Destiny is now free on Xbox One… sort of.

A trial version of Destiny is now available on the Xbox Store.

“The original Destiny adventure may appear to be free on some digital console marketplaces,” a new statement on developer Bungie’s website reads.

“While players may download the Destiny base game, they will only be granted access to the Destiny Trial Mode for free. If players wish to progress through the original Destiny adventure via digital download, they will be required to purchase Destiny: The Collection to gain access to this content.”

Ultimately, it’s best to look at the content as a demo.

Destiny: The Collection bundles the base game and its DLC — “The Taken King”, “House of Wolves” and “The Dark Below”. “Rise of Iron” heads to Destiny on Xbox One and PS4 from September.
