Destiny 2’s new Gambit mode combines PvP, PvE

Destiny 2‘s new Gambit mode will shake things up in the upcoming Forsaken expansion, combining PvP and PvE gameplay.

“This all-new hybrid 4v4 mode combines the best of PvE and PvP,” Bungie said of the new mode. “Two teams of four race to summon a Primeval enemy and be the first to burn it down. Disrupt the other team by sending a combatant blocker or invading directly with one of your own players.”

In the mode, you’re tasked to do three things: Fight, collect and bank.

Players will be tasked to fight off both the enemy team and baddie NPCs — the latter of which get stronger as the match progresses. As enemies are dispatched, they’ll drop motes that Guardians will be tasked to collect (like in Supremacy); players can hold up to 15 motes at one time, but will lose each one if killed.

Players can bank motes in a central structure, earning a blocker when banking 5, 10 or 15 motes at once. At 25 and 50 motes, you can send one teammate through a portal to invade the enemy’s base. At 75 motes, you can summon a Primeval, or boss character, that you need to ultimately defeat to beat the enemy team.

We’re hoping to get our hands on Gambit next week at E3 2018 — stay tuned.

Destiny 2 is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4. The Forsaken expansion — and Gambit — will be available from 4 September.
