Destiny 2 Faction Rally changes bring back the grind

Destiny 2 Faction Rally changes mean that players will only be able to align themselves with one in-game faction rather than split the difference with different Guardian characters.

“Pledging to a faction should be a meaningful choice,” Bungie said in its weekly update. This means that “players may now only pledge to one faction per account during a Faction Rallies event” and that “reputation progress is retained through multiple events, and it will not be reset during the season, even if a player changes allegiance.”

Bungie added that it plans to run three Faction Rally events over the course of this season.

The changes mean that you’re locked into one faction through the event and will likely miss out on the winning faction’s spoils (it’s a 1/3 chance now). That said, Bungie advised that each faction will have unique items accessible to those who pledge:

  • Dead Orbit will offer the Eye of Another World ornament and the Graviton Lance Catalyst
  • New Monarchy will offer the Crest of Alpha Lupi ornament and the Sweet Business Catalyst
  • Future War Cult will offer the Knucklehead Radar ornament and the Sunshot Catalyst

Moreover, players will earn a Renown buff after pledging to a faction. It will accrue as a player completes any planet activity — kills, patrols and public events, as examples — and will offer up more Faction Rally tokens when looting a Lost Sector.

Renown also acts as a debuff, however, reducing your damage and health regeneration as it accrues.

Destiny 2‘s new Faction Rally kicks off later this week on 5 June. What do you make of changes to the system?

Destiny 2 is available now on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
