Destiny 2 chat disabled after discovery it can be used to cheat

Is nothing sacred?

Destiny 2 chat was disabled over the weekend after cheaters realised it could be manipulated to disrupt the experience of others.

“We have temporarily disabled text chat on all platforms in Destiny 2 while we investigate an issue causing Weasel errors,” Bungie quickly wrote, following the discovery. “Stay tuned for updates.”

Cheaters were using large strings of characters in said chat to crash the games of opponents, as detailed by Destiny Bulletin on Twitter. It’s unclear when the feature will be turned on… but it’s certain that won’t happen until the vulnerability has been patched.

Destiny 2 is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, PS5 and Stadia. Its Solstice of Heroes 2022 event is ongoing.
