Danganronpa 2×2 brings more than a remake in 2026

Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair plus more.

Danganronpa 2×2 was today announced by Spike Chunsoft and is both a remake of Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair and a new game itself.

Confused? So we are.

“The latest installment in the Danganronpa series,” is described by Spike Chunsoft as a “high-speed deductive action game [that] features both a brand-new scenario, and the freshly revamped original scenario from Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair.”

Danganronpa 2×2 includes a brand-new scenario based on Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair,” Spike Chunsoft continued. “The setting and cast of characters remain the same, but a certain incident triggers a completely different chain of events with different victims, culprits, and tricks. This new scenario offers a volume of content on par with the original.”

The original scenario has also been “updated with new visuals and production value for modern game systems,” the publisher added.

I reviewed the original Danganronpa 2 Goodbye Despair way back in 2014, saying it was, “hard to explain – and to pronounce, for that matter – but a delight to play. It’s one of those games that’s better left a mystery, ripe for you to delve into and discover on your own.”

Danganronpa 2×2 is scheduled for 2026 release on Windows PC via Steam, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, Switch, and Switch 2.
