Zampella was killed today in a car crash.
Call of Duty co-creator Vince Zampella has died in a car crash at the age of 55, The Guardian reports.
In addition to Call of Duty, Zampella was also a driving force behind shooter franchises Medal of Honor, Titanfall, and Apex Legends. Most recently, Zampella was promoted to head of Battlefield at EA, and released Battlefield 6 this past October.
The Guardian reports that Zampella was involved in a single-car crash yesterday afternoon along California’s Angeles Crest Highway. Two vehicle contained two passengers, both who’ve sadly passed away.
In a statement, EA mourned Zampella’s passing.
“This is an unimaginable loss, and our hearts are with Vince’s family, his loved ones, and all those touched by his work,” the statement reads.
“Vince’s influence on the video game industry was profound and far-reaching. A friend, colleague, leader and visionary creator, his work helped shape modern interactive entertainment and inspired millions of players and developers around the world,” it continued. “His legacy will continue to shape how games are made and how players connect for generations to come.”
