Chiptunes return to Melbourne in March with Square Sounds 2015

Square Sounds Melbourne 2015, a chipmusic, demoscene, video game music and retrotech music festival, is back for another year.

Taking place over 20-21 March at Melbourne’s Evelyn Hotel, both local and international music artists will be taking part in the event.

Major acts include:

  • Chip (Hirokazu) Tanaka, one of the world’s best known video game composers, creating catchy, immediately recognisable music and sounds for games including Tetris, Metroid and Smash Bros. Brawl as a member of Nintendo’s development team.
  • Sweden’s Goto80, one of three artists nominated for best all time Commodore64 composer at the Commodore 25th anniversary celebration is a prolific chiptune artist, with over 1,000 songs to his credit.
  • Chipzel, the first ever Irish artist to play Square Sounds is the creator of the soundtrack for the BAFTA nominated Super Hexagon. She is currently working on the soundtrack to the Kickstarter funded and Steam Greenlit Interstellaria.

Tickets are set at $37 AUD plus booking fee for one night, or $67 AUD plus booking fee for two nights. Interested parties can also head here for more information, including a full festival schedule.
