CD Projekt RED details its “Cyberpunk” trademark applications

CD Projekt RED has taken to Twitter to explain its trademark applications over the term “Cyberpunk” for the purposes of its next title, Cyberpunk 2077.

It was discovered earlier in the week that the developer applied for a trademark of the term back as early as 2011. The trademark applications are case-sensitive, so they don’t apply to the term “cyberpunk”.

“We have to ensure that we will be th eonly entity that can use its exact name and naming scheme,” CD Projekt RED said of the application. “There wasn’t and there isn’t any evil plan behind that.”

Cyberpunk 2077 has been scheduled within a 2017-2021 release window.
