Capcom files suit against Tecmo Koei

Capcom has just filed a lawsuit against Koei Tecmo, alleging that several key Capcom patents have been infringed upon by Koei Tecmo.

As reported by Sankei (as translated by Siliconera), the patents revolve around backwards-compatible content that can be transferred between different eras of a game franchise. As a specific example, the Capcom patents Koei Tecmo has allegedly infringed deal with Dynasty Warriors 8: Xtreme Legends content that can be linked with Dynasty Warriors 8 to add new content to the older game.

Capcom continues that a total of 50 Koei Tecmo games are in violation of patents. Capcom seeks 980 million yen ($10 million AUD) in the lawsuit as well as a temporary ban on Koei Tecmo games.
