Callisto Protocol season pass has 25 new death animations

"We're not holding anything back" at launch, says dev.

The Callisto Protocol will offer up a season pass with 25 new death animations contained within it, an updated game listing has revealed.

Over on Steam, the survival horror shooter has disclosed that a season pass will be bundled as part of its Digital Deluxe version and offers up the animations as part of two DLC drops. In slight contrast, the game’s Microsoft Store listing says the season pass is a pre-order item available only with the Digital Deluxe version of the title.

First, the Contagion Bundle is a higher difficulty game mode with fewer resources, permadeath and 13 new death animations for protagonist Jacob. Next, a Riot Bundle will offer up a new horde-style game mode, complete with 12 new death animations; it also offers up the Engineer skin collection.

Taking to Twitter, Striking Distance Studio’s Glen Schofield asserted that the animations will be new ones, and not cut content from launch.

“To be clear: We’re not holding anything back from the main game for the season pass,” he wrote. “We haven’t even started work on this content yet. It’s all new stuff that we’ll be working on in the new year. Fans have asked for EVEN MORE deaths, so we’re making it a priority next year.”

The season pass will also offer up an Outer Way skin collection, it’s also been confirmed. It’s unclear if the season pass or individual content drops can be purchased as standalone items; we’ve reached out to representatives for comment.

Studio head Schofield made headlines earlier in the year when he took to Twitter saying he was proud of his studio’s crunch culture before walking them back.

The Callisto Protocol heads to Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5 on 2 December 2022.
