Call of Duty Black Ops 7: Campaign endgame, global progression, and more

A hands-off presentation ahead of Gamescom spills all the details...

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 will add a campaign endgame and global progression in an attempt to remain a Battlefield-beater, Raven and Treyarch detailed in a 90 minute hands-off session ahead of Gamescom.

Set in 2035, and looking very much like it’s set in the Titanfall universe rather than Call of Duty, Black Ops 7 has a vision statement that includes the phrase, “embrace the madness”.

“Mind-bending” was also on the lips of several representatives from Raven and Treyarch as part of the pre-Gamescom livestream, with a further confirmation that Black Ops 7 will serve as a direct sequel to events that played out in Call of Duty Black Ops 2.

“As the credits roll, we’re going to be unlocking a 12th mission that is very different,” a representative told Stevivor as part of the presentation, “and we’re calling it Endgame. It’s going to redefine what campaign can be in Call of Duty.

“We really wanted to bring replayability to campaign in the way that we have with Zombies, and a big part of that is because we want to open up progression for the entire game. So what we’re really doing here is creating a new path for campaign players to continue to experience our game, and then also ideally bring in other players who might want to check out this version. This open-world, never ending version of the campaign.”

“After you finished the linear part of the campaign, we unlock all of Avalon for you to go into, and really everything that you’ve done leading up to this moment has been training you to be successful in this new dynamic.”

Tied to this new idea is full progression throughout Black Ops 7, starting in campaign and extended into multiplayer, Zombies, and Warzone. Campaign will feature camos for the first time, and all modes will offer up weekly challenges in addition to daily challenges, reticle challenges, and seasonal events.

“When you play through the co-op campaign and graduate into Endgame, you are going to be earning XP,” said Lawrence Metten of Treyarch. “You’re going to be levelling up your guns. When Season 1 drops, you’ll be progressing the Battle Pass. We also have a dedicated camo track for co-op campaign and camos in campaign for the first time.”

Players will also benefit from a weapon prestige system that will offer three levels beyond the base — 1, 2, and Master — each relocking all attachments but providing special camos, charms, and attachment as a result.

Call of Duty Black Ops 7 is planned for a release on Windows PC via Steam and Battle.net, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4, and PS5.
