Update: Call of Duty Black Ops 6 will be available within Xbox Game Pass upon its launch, Microsoft has today confirmed.

That’s the news, really — Microsoft didn’t have much more to say about the release.

“We’re excited to confirm that Game Pass members will be able to jump into Call of Duty Black Ops 6 on day one with Game Pass” reads a post on Xbox Wire.

Original story [20 May 2024]: The next Call of Duty title — one believed to be a Black Ops sequel — will be released on day one inside Xbox Game Pass, a report from the Wall Street Journal states.

The report says the announcement will take place as part of Microsoft’s Summer Game Fest livestreams, specifically the “redacted” affair that will follow Microsoft’s main stream. Here in Australia, both of those livestreams will take place on 10 June.

According to another report by The Verge’s Tom Warren, Microsoft has been engaged in “a debate that has been ongoing internally for quite some time, with concerns from some that the revenue that Call of Duty typically generates for Activision Blizzard will be undermined by [an Xbox] Game Pass [release]”.

What do you make of the above report? Are you going to be buying the next Call of Duty or taking advantage of it as “free” via Game Pass? Or, will you be playing on PS5 instead? Sound off in the comments area, below.
