Blizzard won’t ever patch Diablo 4 “like this ever again”

We'll hold you to that.

Blizzard has said it won’t ever patch Diablo 4 “like this ever again”, referring to a Season 1 patch that was shunned by its player base.

Speaking in a fireside chat, integral members of the Diablo 4 dev team admitted the recent patch was to slow those “blasting through the content”, but had the unintended consequence of preventing most players from actually having fun.

“We want to acknowledge everyone’s feedback in regard to reducing player power,” said community manager Adam Fletcher.

“We know it is bad. We know it is not fun,” Fletcher continued. “We also want to talk about what we were trying to achieve specifically with this patch and with the changes that players ended up seeing. Then, separately, we do want to also talk about how we don’t plan on doing a patch like this ever again.”

“Ultimately, what we’re trying to do is make the game more fun for players,” added game director Joe Shely.

“The players are at the heart of everything we’re doing, and if players can’t believe that, as the game evolves, the game will get more fun, we’re not accomplishing our goals,” Shely said.

A planned patch, version 1.1.1, will begin to address concerns. On the patch’s docket are reworks to Nightmare Dungeon enemy density, Legendary aspect boosts for Sorcerers and Barbarians, and more. Developers have already indicated that new barriers to Capstone Dungeons would be removed.

Diablo 4 is now on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS4 and PS5; Season 1 is live now and requires a new character.
