Black Myth Zhong Kui is GameScience’s Wukong follow-up

And it was just announced.

Black Myth Zhong Kui is the next title from GameScience, the developer behind Soulslike Black Myth Wukong.

Announced today at Gamescom, GameScience has also confirmed that Zhong Kui is in early development. As its title suggests, its protagonist is Zhong Kui, a Taoist deity who combats evil creatures.

“This single-player action role-playing game draws its primary creative inspiration from the famed Chinese folk figure ‘Zhong Kui’,” GameScience said alongside its reveal trailer, below. “As the project is still in early development, no in-game footage is available at this time.”

Black Myth Wukong was first released on PC and PS5 back in August last year — the title has only dropped on Xbox today.

We reviewed the title last year on PC.

“I’ve used the term ‘Soulslike’ frequently here, and I believe it’s still more accurate than likening Black Myth Wukong to something in the vein of God of War Ragnarok,” I wrote at the time.

“While you have the freedom to fast travel to different places within the world, GameScience’s title is far more linear and lacking a true sense of exploration. I’d imagine that’s because Black Myth Wukong is extremely story-driven, and GameScience isn’t as adept at weaving in a narrative as the veterans over at Sony Santa Monica.”

We’ll have more on Black Myth Zhong Kui as it becomes available.
