Battlefield 1: How to unlock squads and customise weapon loadouts:

DICE has responded to complaints of numerous locked squads and difficulty accessing weapon loadout customisation within Battlefield 1.

First, the locked squad situation usually occurs when friends party up with one another ahead of a match. What results is a locked squad — with usually only two players in it — when the round actually begins. Players are complaining about small, locked squads on Reddit, as they make it harder for a side to work together to capture objectives.

The solution is simple — once a game has started, head to the squads screen and move to your squad. There will be a button prompt there to unlock.

Next, DICE has acknowledged it has “temporarily disabled” weapon loadout customisation via Battlefield 1‘s main menu, companion app or website.

“We will turn it on once it’s stabilized more,” a DICE representative continued.

For now, customisation has to occur within a match once it’s started.

Battlefield 1 will be available to all tomorrow on Windows PC, Xbox One and PS4.
