Baldur’s Gate 3 devs tell PC players to delete early access saves, game

Early access no more.

Baldur’s Gate 3 dev Larian has recommended that current PC players first delete their current saves, then the game entirely, ahead of its non-early access release on 4 August.

Getting rid of everything before the game’s proper release will “reduce the risk of file conflicts when the final game downloads”, according to Larian, meaning players will have “more playing, and no troubleshooting!”

Larian also advised that “so much has changed” between the PC’s early access and proper releases “that it’s really worth it to start fresh”.

Here in Australia, expect Baldur’s Gate 3 on PC from 1.00 am AEST on 4 August; pre-loading of the game isn’t possible, so you can start downloading then.

Today’s news also comes as Larian has said that an Xbox release mightn’t come until 2024; the Xbox Series S is blamed for the delay.

“We’ve said many times in the past that the issue is getting split-screen working on the Series S, which is taking more time, but is in progress,” Larian’s Michael Douse said on Twitter. “This is a huge technical hurdle, but we are unable to release the game on the ecosystem without this feature.

“We cannot remove the split-screen feature because we are obliged to launch with feature parity, and so continue to try and make it work,” Douse continued. “We have quite a few engineers working very hard to do what no other RPG of this scale has achieved: seamless drop-in, drop-out co-op on Series S. We hope to have an update by the end of the year.”

Baldur’s Gate 3 heads to Windows PC via Steam on 4 August, and PS5 on 6 September.
