Avengers displaying PS5 players’ IP addresses after update

Crystal Dynamics is working on a fix.

Avengers is currently displaying the IP addresses of PS5 players after a recent update. Developer Crystal Dynamics has said it’s aware of the issue and will soon issue a hotfix to address the problem.

The update went live earlier today (possibly even late last night here in Australia), with PS5 players quickly realising the problem.

“Uhhh can confirm Avengers is showing people’s IP addresses ON SCREEN as of this patch, I can see my own,” tweeted Forbes’ Paul Tassi.

Easy access to a user’s IP address could open them up to location tracking, hacking or denial of service (DDoS) attacks.

Crystal Dynamics took to Avengers‘ Twitter account to acknowledge the issue.

“We are currently testing a solution to the issue of personal information, including the player’s IP address and username, being displayed on screen on PS5 and plan to deploy a hotfix tomorrow at around 8AM PT,” the developer stated. “PlayStation 5 players should refrain from streaming or posting screenshots online until then as sensitive information may be displayed.”

That corresponds to about 1.00 am AEST tomorrow morning, 24 June. We’d advise PS5 players remain off of Avengers until then.

Avengers is currently available on Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S & X, PS4, PS5 and Stadia. War for Wakanda is available in August.
