Apple Arcade free trial ends when you cancel auto-renewal

Just a PSA to those keen to try out Apple Arcade, the new games-focussed subscription service from Apple: if you cancel the subscription’s auto-renewal during the trial, your trial will immediately end.

Just like other Apple subscriptions like Apple Music and Apple News+, the one-month Apple Arcade trial requires you to sign up for an auto-subscription service that will charge your credit card for the second and any subsequent months. Like those other services, the trial will end immediately if you move to stop that auto-renewal and subsequent charges.

While this is stated on the Apple Arcade subscription — “Your service ends immediately if you cancel your trial” — those on Reddit aren’t too keen on the practice. To summarise frustrations, consumers aren’t crazy about tactics that will lead to credit card charges if the auto-renewal is forgotten about.

The solution is relatively simple — if you want to make use of the free Apple Arcade trial without being charged for your second month, make note of when you activate the trial and diarise to cancel the subscription 29 days later.
