Apex Legends Iron Crown brings solos, special Octane mode

An Apex Legends Iron Crown mode will bring the chance to play a solo queue for a limited time alongside a special event starring relatively new character, Octane.

Apex Legends solo queue

“While we are committed to Apex Legends delivering a competitive, three-player squad experience, we’re going to put Solos in for a limited time,” developer Respawn said of the temporarily addition. “We are always striving to ensure healthy matchmaking across all modes, so it’s too early to say whether Solos will be permanent or not, but we’re going to watch and see what happens. As always, we want to hear your feedback, so let us know what you think.”

The solo queue will pit a total of 60 players against one another.

Octane Town Takeover

Moreover, a special mode called Octane Town Takeover will let you play as the character as he moves to take out enemies in a special part of the map. You’ll also be able to take advantage of a mega jump pad course complete with a ring of fire. Unlike the solo queue, Octane Town Takeover “will remain part of Kings Canyon even after the event ends,” Respawn has advised.

Iron Crown cosmetics

Finally, the Apex Legends Iron Crown brings a host of new cosmetics. Players will be able to open Iron Crown Collection Packs with the following odds:

  • 50% chance at an Epic item
  • 50% chance at a Legendary item

All up, there are 24 themed items. With each Collection Pack roughly costing $7 USD a pop, players will have to spend around $140 USD to collect them all.

The Apex Legends Iron Crown event runs until 27 August.
