Apex Legends adds faster, permanent Wildcard mode

Prepare yourself.

Apex Legends has added a faster, permanent game mode called Wildcard as part of its 26th season.

Wildcard will pit 30 players, in teams of up to 3, against one another in a modified version of Kings Canyon littered with traversal items like jump pads, gravity cannons, and ziplines. A compressed ring will mean you’ll be shooting right from your drop, and players will have a single Self Revive kit in their inventories because of this.

To help with the fast-paced nature of the mode, auto loot will be enabled — walking, running, or sliding over ground loot will automatically add the items to your inventory.

Explaining the mode’s name, Wildcard will feature Wildcard Replicators that will grant new abilities like wall running when accessed.

“Outplay the world in Apex Legends: Showdown,” EA and Respawn said about the game’s larger 26th season.

“The new season kicks off with Wildcard — the new permanent mode with faster gameplay, loot explosions, and second chances to help you clutch that win,” they continued. “Run 3 of any Legend in a remixed Kings Canyon packed with map toys. The Showdown begins with Caustic and Bangalore buffs, plus new Ranked changes and more.”

Apex Legends is of course available now; Showdown kicks off on 6 August across Windows PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series S, PS4, PS5, and Switch.
