Aonuma: The next Zelda game won’t just be another Ocarina of Time rehash

Eiji Aonuma has told Famitsu (as translated by Kotaku) that the next Legend of Zelda game is “progressing well” and keeping he and his team busy.

“The game has really taken shape, and things have gotten easier,” Aonuma said. “That means things are progressing well.”

Moreover, Aonuma essentially outright said that this won’t be another rehash of a past Zelda game.

“I think the base of our secret sauce has always been Ocarina of Time, but this time, the change in flavor will be like going from Japanese food to Western style food,” he said. “Perhaps, players will be surprised. Please look forward to it, because I think we’ll be able to make ‘something new’ like Ocarina of Time was.”

A release date — or even confirmation of platform — for the next Zelda game has not yet been detailed.
