Amazon’s having another go at a Lord of the Rings MMO

To be developed by the team behind New World.

Amazon is having another crack at a Lord of the Rings MMO, this time from the same team behind its current MMO, New World.

The media giant said the MMO is planned for both PC and consoles, though is still “in early stages of production”.

The MMO will be focused on “the beloved stories of The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings” and not on Amazon’s recent Rings of Power.

“Bringing players a fresh take on The Lord of the Rings has long been an aspiration for our team, and we’re honoured and grateful that Middle-earth Enterprises is entrusting us with this iconic world,” said Amazon Games head Christoph Harmann.

Harmann also used the opportunity to talk up its plans to publish the next title in the Tomb Raider franchise.

“We’re also pleased to be expanding our relationship with Embracer Group following our Tomb Raider deal last year, as they’ve proven to be excellent collaborators,” Harmann added.

We’ll have more on The Lord of the Rings MMO when more is known.
