AFL 23 delayed to May 2023

April, no more.

The Aussie-made AFL 23 has been delayed into May 2023 and it’s all the fault of physical media, the AFL has today announced.

“Physical stock of one of the AFL 23 console platforms has not arrived in Australia,” the AFL said. “To provided equity and fairness between all purchasers, regretfully, the release of AFL 23 will be postponed until 4 May 2023.”

While the easy out here would be to encourage digital purchases, the sports title will be pushed back from 13 April to 4 May regardless of how you were planning to play.

What do you make of the call? Has the AFL really decided to delay all digital and physical purchases by a month because of “physical stock of one [platform]”, or is this just a tactic to allow for more development time?

Regardless of what you may think, it’s curious that the statement was made so late in the day right before a four-day long weekend.

Expect AFL 23 from 4 May on Windows PC, Xbox and PlayStation.
