3DS and Wii U eShop close for good in March 2023

RIP, little guys.

Nintendo has advised it will close both the 3DS and Wii U eShop in March 2023.

The closures will take place on 27 March 2023 for those in the west, and on 28 March 2023 in Japan.

Already, users are unable to use a credit card to add new wallet funds to either shop’s accounts. From 29 August, eShop Cards will not longer be permitted for use. Players will be able to redeem download codes until March 2023, and items can be redownloaded past the closure dates.

Players will also be able to receive software updates and play games online after the shops closures.

Nintendo first advised the shops would close back in February of this year.

Ben and I actually had a chat about the 3DS and Wii U eShops as part of a recent Friendly Fire Show — check that out here.
