"Players should feel the weight of command," says gameXcite founder, Patrick Streppel.
Forget the U.S.S. Voyager’s “Year of Hell,” as Star Trek Voyager Across the Unknown is embracing its survival nature and seeking to put captains through “years of hell,” according to gameXcite founder and CEO, Patrick Streppel.
Speaking with yours truly for continued TrekMovie coverage of the game, Streppel confirmed that Across the Unknown has three difficulty levels, and that none of them will truly be a cakewalk.
“We have three difficulty settings ranging from an adventure mode that lets players focus more on the story to experiencing ‘years of hell’ in the Delta Quadrant,” Streppel told me. “But make no mistake: We have developed a survival game and like in the show, players should feel the weight of command!”
“While the game is not a rogue-like, restarting a sector and improving your strategy is sometimes advisable and part of the challenge to be a starship captain,” he added.
Streppel also stressed that this is a Trek game “made by fans for fans,” while emphasising that “this is not a AAA production, but we tried to re-create the full experience of being a starship captain, stranded in the Delta Quadrant.”
Many thanks to Streppel for his time, especially on the eve of the game’s launch. There’s a bunch of great stuff in my larger TrekMovie article, including stuff on potential follow-ups, AI usage, and more — I encourage you to go and have a full read.
Star Trek Voyager Across the Unknown will head to PC, Xbox Series S, Xbox Series X, PS5, and Switch 2 from 19 February here in Australia. Expect a bunch more in the coming days here on Stevivor.
