They're off to the races...
Stevivor’s Game of the Year (GOTY) 2025 awards program kicks off today, as it always does, with the best sports game of this year.
As we’re kicking things off, allow us to explain how it all works: our staffers all get a vote in each category of our program, able to select up to three titles from a pool of nominations we’ve gathered previously. Top selections get three points, second selections earn two points, and third place selections gain one point. We add everything together to determine our winners.
With that out of the way, our staffers awarded Rematch with the honour of Best Sports Game 2025. Runners-up in this category are Nintendo’s Mario Kart World and EA’s Skate.
“Our experience with Rematch has been quite enjoyable,” I wrote back at the football game’s launch in June of this year. “We’ve stuck to 3v3 and 4v4 matches in early access and have had a ton of fun.”
Developer Sloclap has introduced a number of bug fixes since our first assessment, and has even enabled crossplay with Season 1 back in September. Like Skate, it’s free-to-play, so worth checking out if you’re even remotely interested.
