Oculus executive arrested in underage sex sting

Dov Katz, Oculus’ head of the computer vision, was charged for attempted commercial sexual abuse of a minor last week in Washington, USA.

The executive allegedly was in contact with what he believed to be a 15-year-old girl for the purposes of sex. In reality, the 15-year-old was actually an undercover officer with the Tukwila Police Department.

In documents recovered by GeekWire after an initial report by KING 5, the attending officer reports that Katz began to communicate with a girl he believed to be 19-years-old before she ‘confessed’ to actually be 15. Katz continued to organise a meet up, going as far as to suggest potential intercourse occur without the use of a condom.

Upon his arrest, Katz told the undercover officer that he attended the meetup for the purposes of rescuing the girl.

Katz will be arraigned on 5 January, with bail set at $125,000 USD.

Katz is an Israeli citizen who was profiled by the Times of Israel in 2014 for his work in development of the Oculus Rift headset. Oculus was purchased by media giant Facebook back in that same year.
