Ubisoft, EA in battle over “Ghosts”

Ubisoft is in opposition of Electronic Arts’ trademark application over the “Ghost” in relation to video games.

EA’s application is in regards to Need for Speed developer Ghost Games, started in 2011. Ubisoft has countered that its been using the term since 2001 in relation to the Ghost Recon franchise of games.

According to Ubisoft, their opposition is on the grounds that EA’s use of “Ghost” will likely “cause confusion, to cause mistake, or to deceive”.

“Consumers are likely to believe, mistakenly, that the goods and services Applicant [EA] offers under Applicant’s Mark are provided, sponsored, endorsed, or approved by Opposers [Ubisoft], or are in some way affiliated, connected, or associated with Opposers,” reads Ubisoft’s official opposition, as discovered by NeoGAF.

EA has until 9 March to respond to the opposition.

Ubisoft announced the next in the Ghost Recon franchise, Wildlands, at last E3.
