Here’s what’s planned for Pokémon’s 20th anniversary

There are big plans in motion to celebrate Pokémon‘s 20th anniversary.

Nintendo has announced that a (new) New 3DS bundle will honour the storied franchise, coupling Pokémon Blue, Red and Yellow with the handheld console. The bundle comes with two cover plates, one featuring the Blastoise evolution of Wartortle and the other with Charizard.

2DS bundles will offer the handheld in transparent red, blue or yellow and Pokémon Blue, Red and Yellow pre-installed.

As you can see in the video above, the anniversary has its own logo:

Additionally, Pokémon will be able to be grabbed from various retailers: Arceus, Darkrai, Genesect and Mew. Available from GameStop in America, Nintendo said Europe will have the Pokemon “distributed via various methods.”

The festivities begin on 27 February, when Pokémon Blue, Red and Yellow becomes available on 3DS.

We’re awaiting confirmation of Australian specific details.

Update: Nintendo Australia has confirmed both the 2DS ($149.95 AUD) and 3DS (price undisclosed) bundles described above.
