Activision Blizzard won’t divulge World of Warcraft subscriber numbers, but is happy to talk about Destiny

With a declining subscriber base, Activision Blizzard today announced that it will no longer report on World of Warcraft subscriber numbers.

“Note that this is the last quarter that we plan to provide subscriber numbers,” the publisher advised during a recent investor call. “There are other metrics that are better indicators of the overall Blizzard performance.”

The announcement comes as WoW‘s active subscriber base slipped to just (just?!) 5.5 million.

The publisher has no problems talking Destiny, though, reporting that the game now has 25 million registered players who play, on average, three hours a day.

“Day-one downloads broke PlayStation records, day-one engagement saw the highest number of active players in Destiny’s history, daily player engagement is now well above 3 hours per day and the Destiny community has climbed to over 25 million registered players,” Activision said, summarising the launch of “The Taken King”.

“Since its launch, Destiny has become the most watched console game on Twitch.”
