The Witcher 3: Xbox One’s standby mode playing havoc with game saves

Users over on Reddit and The Witcher 3 forums have identified an issue with the Xbox One’s standby mode and the potential corruption of local game saves.

Some users are reporting that the message “you cannot save right now” pops up when trying to continue The Witcher 3 after launching from a standby mode state, and others are stuck on the game’s loading screen.

Personally, I had the “please wait” message on the loading screen last night.

Thankfully, a hard reset and power cycle fixes the issue for some, and deleting your local save and redownloading progress from the cloud works for others.

Until a fix is made, it’s probably best to close The Witcher 3 down after finishing your play. To do so, go to the Xbox One Home screen, hit options on The Witcher 3‘s tile, and select “Quit”.
